A full-time, semester-long internship inWashington, DC, with a federal agency, non-profitorganization, or private firm. Depending uponinterest and internship placement, students mayattend hearings, conduct policy research, draftcorrespondence, monitor legislation, lobbymembers of Congress, or write analytical reports.Students will create an in-depth portfolio oftheir internship experience. 12 credits.

INT 328 Washington Center Seminar 3 Credits
Washington Center interns participate in anevening seminar selected from a variety of topicsoffered during the semester. Students engage inclass discussion and may also research seminartopics, prepare written assignments, and takeexaminations. Students must choose a seminar withclear international content chosen in consultationwith the Director of International Studies.Required of and limited to students enrolled inInternational Studies 327. INT 401 International Studies Seminar 4 Credits
This course is designed to help students toconsider in depth their off-campus experiences asan International Studies major and to drawconnections among inter-disciplinary coursesrequired of the major. The nature of theory, itsapplication to International Studies, andproblems involved in defining this field of studyand in developing empirical methods for it areanalyzed. Special attention is given toanthropological, economic, historical, andpolitical approaches to International Studies, aswell as to approaches that include textualanalysis (including foreign language texts). Theseminar also provides students with an opportunityto discuss topics for their senior theses. Thiscourse is required for, and limitedto, senior International Studies majors.
